47th Thai Musical Performance in Higher Education

Chiang Mai University hosted the 47th Thai Musical Performance in Higher Education under the theme “First Purity of Musical Assembly for The 60th-year celebration ” from November 25 – 27, 2024, at Chiang Mai University Convention Hall, the Office of Art and Culture and Lanna Creative, and the Academic Service Center, Raiford, Chiang Mai University. The event was attended by over 80 higher education institutions from across the country.
Activities within the event included Thai music performances by each institution, an exhibition titled “Music from the Siamese Court to the Lanna Land,” workshops on musical instrument performance exchanges, workshops on Lanna handicraft making, as well as booths selling musical instruments, local products, and regional cuisine.

Lanna Folklore CMU

The Lanna Folklore Club focuses on preserving Lanna culture through organizing music performances, traditional dance, and folk games, as well as collaborating with local communities in various events to maintain and promote Lanna culture for the younger generation to learn and appreciate. On June 6, 2024, the Lanna Folklore Club, Chiang Mai University Student Union, participated in performing arts and cultural presentations at the opening ceremony of the 9th Engagement Thailand Annual Conference 2024: Driving Society Engagement Innovation toward Sustainability.

The CMU Music Club is an organization that brings together individuals interested in performing international music. The club participates in various significant university events, such as the Music in the Garden activity and official university ceremonies. The CMU Music Club organized a folk festival named the FOLK CRAFT CONTEST with the theme MUSIC IN RAIN FLUEREST. The event featured a folk song band competition and a wide array of craft items, and it was held on September 17-18, 2024, at SAK Square (Lan Sak), Chiang Mai University.

A student choir club gathered to perform a choral ensemble on June 25, 2024, at the Slope Room, 4th Floor, Design Building, Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University.
CMU Symphony Orchestra

The CMU Symphony Orchestra organized the “CMU Symphony Orchestra Concert” under the theme “La vie en Love: A Musical Journey Through the Path of Love” on September 28, 2024, at the Grand Conference Hall, 3rd Floor, 50th Anniversary of Political Science Building, Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration, Chiang Mai University.

Drama on Stage – CMU Mass Communication Theater

An annual theatrical event produced by students from the Faculty of Mass Communication, serving as a platform for creative expression, held during September-October. In 2024, the Faculty of Mass Communication Theater presented the stage production “Khwaen: The Musical” on October 4 – 6, 2024, at Room MCB2301, Faculty of Mass Communication, Chiang Mai University.
The Performing Arts Program, Faculty of Fine Arts

The Performing Arts Program, Faculty of Fine Arts, is a program that focuses on developing performance skills in various forms to prepare graduates with the knowledge and expertise for professional work in the entertainment industry. Annual events are organized to showcase students’ abilities. In 2024, the performance “Once Upon a Time” was presented, which was a performing arts production created by fourth-year students of the Performing Arts Program, Department of Thai Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University, on March 24, 2024, and March 27, 2024.
In addition to the aforementioned groups, there are various activities and performances organized by students at both the university and faculty levels throughout the year, such as Hom Festival, Sour Festival, San Sin, CMU Freshmen Night, and others. Furthermore, various academic programs and faculties participate in creating artistic works by integrating traditional culture with modern technology, making them more engaging and contributing to the promotion of tourism within the area.
