Chiang Mai University Act 2008 provides comprehensive policy support for elected representation on the university’s governing body. In section 21, University Council Composition establishes that the University Council includes (4) Chair of the University Promotion Committee, Chair of the Staff Council, and President of Chiang Mai University Alumni Association. This provision ensures student voice through alumni representation in university governance, (5) Three council members elected from one vice president and two heads of work units according to Section 40; and (6) Four council members elected from three full-time academic staff and one university staff member who is not full-time academic staff. These provisions ensure direct elected representation from faculty and staff on the governing body, demonstrating democratic participation in university governance. In section 33, Staff Council mandates that there shall be a Staff Council consisting of the Chair of the Staff Council and members elected by university staff with procedures for composition, qualifications, selection methods, term of office, and meeting operations to be in accordance with university regulations. This creates a formal structure for staff representation and participation in university decision-making processes.
