CMU Named One of 10 National Recipients of the Outstanding Research Organization 2026 Award, Highlighting Excellence in Research Management

Chiang Mai University (CMU) has been recognized as one of only 10 recipients nationwide of the THAILAND TALENT AWARD 2026: OUTSTANDING RESEARCH ORGANIZATION, in the category of “Advancing World-Class Frontier Research,” presented by the Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI). The recognition marks an important achievement for CMU and reflects the strength of its research management system, spanning strategic planning, researcher development, data and budget management, and mechanisms for translating research and innovation into practical utilization.

The award recognizes Fundamental Fund (FF)-funded organizations that demonstrate outstanding institutional research management alongside tangible research outcomes and serve as potential models for other organizations within Thailand’s science, research and innovation ecosystem. This year, the awards were divided into five categories according to the missions and contexts of participating organizations, with two awards presented in each category, for a total of just 10 national awards.

A key factor underlying CMU’s achievement is its strategic approach of “Managing strategy through 10 Research Consortiums—connecting people, data, and expertise to drive research toward real-world utilization and create measurable value and impact.”

Through its 10 Research Consortiums, CMU brings together research expertise across diverse fields, including Frontier & Deep Technology, Digital & AI, Materials Innovation, Climate Crisis and Carbon Neutrality, Agriculture and Biodiversity, Health and Well-being, Tourism, Hospitality & Creative Economy, and Social Science, Humanities & Arts. The consortium-based approach integrates researchers, data, funding, and cross-disciplinary networks to address national priorities and advance research across the full value chain—from upstream research and development through midstream development to downstream utilization.

Key Results Reflecting the Strength of CMU’s Research Management System

• Improved research performance: The university’s Past Performance assessment increased from 76.09 points in 2025 to 89.66 points in 2028, achieving Grade 5.
• Research utilization pipeline: Between 2021 and 2025, CMU implemented mechanisms supporting 300 Fundamental Fund projects to identify, screen, and nurture high-potential research outputs toward social, community, and commercial utilization.
• From research to application: CMU has developed mechanisms including FF to SF, Research Utilization, Intellectual Property (IP) Management, Licensing, and Technology Transfer, creating systematic pathways for research outputs to generate value across the economic, social, community, and policy sectors.

The award ceremony was held on September 23, 2026, as part of Thailand Talent Summit 2026 at the PEACH International Convention and Exhibition Center, Pattaya, Chonburi. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Winita Boonyodom, Vice President of Chiang Mai University, represented CMU in receiving the award. She was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Chanakan Tebolet Prom-Uthai and Asst. Prof. Dr. Siramas Komonchinda, Assistant to the President, as well as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pharm Chadarat Ampasawat, Deputy Director of the Office of Research Administration, who joined in celebrating the achievement.

The CMU delegation also visited exhibition booths showcasing research and innovation achievements by CMU faculty members and researchers, reinforcing the university’s commitment to advancing the country through science, research, and innovation.

The Outstanding Research Organization 2026 recognition represents another significant milestone for Chiang Mai University and provides further momentum toward its aspiration to become a world-leading research university. Beyond producing high-quality research, CMU is committed to transforming knowledge and expertise into practical applications, creating value and delivering measurable, sustainable positive impacts for society and the country.

チェンマイ大学、全国10機関に選出「Outstanding Research Organization 2026」を受賞 ― 10 Research Consortiumsを軸に研究成果の社会実装を推進

チェンマイ大学（Chiang Mai University: CMU）は、タイ科学研究・イノベーション推進機構（Thailand Science Research and Innovation: TSRI）が主催する THAILAND TALENT AWARD 2026: OUTSTANDING RESEARCH ORGANIZATION において、「Advancing World-Class Frontier Research」部門の受賞機関に選出されました。本年度、全国から選ばれた受賞機関はわずか10機関であり、今回の受賞は、研究戦略の策定、研究者育成、研究データ・予算管理から、研究・イノベーション成果の実用化に至るまで、チェンマイ大学の組織的な研究マネジメント体制が評価されたものです。

本賞は、**Fundamental Fund（FF）**の予算を受ける機関のうち、組織レベルで優れた研究マネジメントを実践するとともに、研究成果から具体的な成果を生み出し、タイの科学・研究・イノベーション（Science, Research and Innovation: SRI）システムにおける他機関のモデルとなる取り組みを行う機関を表彰するものです。本年度は、各機関のミッションや特性に応じて5つのカテゴリーに分けられ、各カテゴリー2機関、計10機関が選出されました。

今回の受賞を支えるチェンマイ大学の重要な戦略の一つが、**「10 Research Consortiumsを通じた戦略的マネジメント――人材・データ・専門知識を結集し、研究成果を実社会での活用へとつなげ、測定可能な価値とインパクトを創出する」**というアプローチです。

チェンマイ大学は、10 Research Consortiumsを通じて、Frontier & Deep Technology、Digital & AI、Materials Innovation、Climate Crisis and Carbon Neutrality、Agriculture and Biodiversity、Health and Well-being、Tourism, Hospitality & Creative Economy、Social Science, Humanities & Artsなど、多様な研究分野の専門知識を結集しています。研究者、データ、研究資金、分野横断的なネットワークを統合し、国の課題に応えるとともに、研究の上流から中流、下流までを一貫してつなぎ、研究成果の社会実装・実用化を推進しています。

研究マネジメント体制の強化を示す主な成果

• 研究パフォーマンスの向上： Past Performance評価は、2025年の76.09ポイントから2028年には89.66ポイントへと向上し、Grade 5を獲得しました。
• 研究成果の社会実装に向けた取り組み： 2021～2025年の間に、Fundamental Fundによる300件の研究プロジェクトを対象として、社会、地域、産業・商業分野での活用可能性を持つ研究成果の選定・育成を行う仕組みを実施しました。
• 研究成果から実用化へ： FF to SF、Research Utilization、知的財産（IP）マネジメント、Licensing、Technology Transferなどの仕組みを整備し、研究成果を経済、社会、地域、政策の各分野における実用化へと体系的につなげています。

表彰式は2026年9月23日、チョンブリー県パッタヤーのPEACH International Convention and Exhibition Centerで開催された Thailand Talent Summit 2026 の一環として行われました。チェンマイ大学を代表して、ウィニタ・ブンヨードム副学長が受賞しました。また、チャンナカン・テボルト・プロムウタイ教授、シラマート・コモンチンダ助教（学長補佐）、およびOffice of Research Administration副所長のチャダラット・アンパサワット准教授（薬学）が出席し、今回の受賞をともに祝いました。

さらに、チェンマイ大学の代表団は会場内に設置された研究・イノベーション展示ブースを訪問し、チェンマイ大学の教員・研究者による研究成果やイノベーションを視察しました。これらの成果を通じて、科学・研究・イノベーションによる国の未来の発展を推進する大学の取り組みを共有しました。

今回の Outstanding Research Organization 2026 の受賞は、チェンマイ大学にとって重要な成果の一つであり、世界をリードする研究大学を目指す取り組みをさらに推進する契機となるものです。チェンマイ大学は、質の高い研究成果を創出するだけでなく、知識と専門性を実社会で活用できる形へと転換し、社会と国に対して測定可能な価値と持続的なプラスのインパクトを生み出すことを目指しています。
