Accessible Childcare Services Supporting University Community at Chiang Mai University

Chiang Mai University provides comprehensive childcare facilities that enable students and staff to pursue educational opportunities and maintain professional responsibilities. Two distinct facilities deliver accessible childcare services supporting the university community’s needs for quality early childhood care and education.

The Faculty of Nursing operates the Health Promotion Demonstration Unit for Young Children, serving children aged 3 months to 3 years for over 30 years. Currently accommodating 35 children, this facility operates Monday through Friday, providing care for children of university students and staff members. The unit integrates nursing expertise with early childhood education, staffed by qualified nurses and early childhood specialists who provide comprehensive health monitoring and developmental support during critical early years. The service maintains a waiting list, reflecting ongoing demand from university personnel and community members. Children graduating from the program demonstrate strong readiness for further education, with schools reporting good self-help skills, communication abilities, and self-regulation.

The SMART ITPC Demonstration School for Kindergarten and Primary Levels complements early childhood services by enrolling 105 kindergarten students annually. This facility provides comprehensive education for children of university personnel through kindergarten and primary grades, operating within the Faculty of Education using innovative educational approaches that prepare children for academic progression.

Both facilities address childcare access needs that affect participation in higher education and employment. These services enable students to complete their degrees and staff members to fulfill professional responsibilities while ensuring children receive quality care and education. The university recognizes space limitations and plans expansion through the New Education Experience initiative, aiming to increase childcare capacity for children aged 3 months to 4 years using evidence-based educational programming and improved management systems.
